Long-Term Care at Home
When You Need Long-Term Care – Wouldn’t You Prefer To Remain In Your Own Home?
Every day 10,000 men and women turn 65 in the United States. The majority of them are hoping to age in their own homes.
With age often comes the need for care. It might be a few hours a day – just a few days each week. Or, it can be more.
Home Care Aides provides custodial care. They help with “activities of daily living” (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, housekeeping and transportation. This is also referred to as personal care, attendant care, non-medical care and companion care.
Nationwide in 2024, costs for non-medical home care range from $20.00 – $40.00 per hour. The rates vary based on where you live (and demand).
These are average costs from home care agencies. Private individuals can be hired to provide most of the same services.
Costs generally are 20% – 30% lower. However, independent caregivers are typically uninsured, they do not go through
background checks and they may be unable to provide alternatives in case they are not available to work on short notice.
Home care only policies are great for the purpose they serve but they do not cover the cost of care outside of the home.
