Determining Insurability: the MIB

Whenever you apply for life, disability, or long-term care insurance, one of the resources insurance companies use to determine insurability is the Medical Information Bureau. The MIB collects and stores medical information on you for the last seven years. This includes doctors’ notes, medical procedures, and Rx utilization.

The information may be accessible by you if you have been declined or coverage has been modified by an insurance company. It’s worth the effort to make sure that what is in your record is accurate.
