Why Long-Term Care Insurance Matters

So, I’m in Walgreens picking up a prescription. While I’m waiting (there is always a wait), I spot this box and wonder what a wheelchair cost. It’s $150.

But wait, what goes with it? The buyer will have had an accident or some kind of debilitating condition. What did that cost? Maybe some surgery, sometime in the hospital and maybe some rehab. If it’s short term and recovery is expected, insurance will cover some or all of the cost which will be several thousand dollars.

But what if it’s the result of a stroke or cancer or diabetes or a cognitive disorder or one of those events from which there is no recovery, just maintenance. Now we’re talking out of pocket money. Maybe several hundred thousand dollars. The only insurance that will pay for that custodial care is a long term care insurance policy.

So, when you shop for a wheelchair, you had better plan for it and let an insurance company pay for it.

At Essential Plans, we can fix you up with that wheel chair money and everything that goes with it.
